Metal Roofing for Southwest Florida
A metal roof is the longest-lasting roof you can put on a Southwest Florida home. Metal roofing lasts 40 to 70 years, compared with 10 to 15 years for asphalt shingle and 20 to 25 years for the underlayment beneath a tile roof. International Roofing has installed metal roofs across Fort Myers, Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero and Cape Coral since 2018, from waterfront new construction to a four-building commercial plaza that Hurricane Ian stripped bare.
We are a family-owned and operated company and a licensed and insured Florida Certified Roofing Contractor (license CCC1332289). Every roof we install comes with our 10-year workmanship warranty and the manufacturer's warranty.
Two metal systems we install
Standing Seam Metal
Standing seam metal roofs are quickly becoming extremely popular as homeowners look for longevity, a modern look, and protection. Long vertical panels are joined by raised seams and every fastener is hidden, so nothing is exposed to UV, moisture and wind, the things that cause exposed fasteners to wear and fail over time. Standing seam withstands 120 mph winds and is available in a variety of colors and finishes including Kynar 500, a resin-based finish with long-life color retention and resistance to fading and chalking. We install 1.5-inch snap-lock and nail-strip profiles. Read more on our Standing Seam page, or see our Fort Myers metal roofing page.
Stone Coated Steel
Stone coated steel offers the strength and durability of steel with the traditional look of tile, shingles or shakes. The panels are lightweight, fireproof and hurricane strong, resistant up to 120 mph winds. Stone coated steel requires knowledge and experience to install correctly, and our own Marcelino has been the leading installer of stone coated steel in Southwest Florida for over 15 years. Read more on our Stone Coated Steel page.
Replacing exposed-fastener 5V metal
Older 5V metal roofs have every screw sitting in the weather, and in our salt air they rust. Two of the metal roofs we replaced recently, in Naples and at a Fort Myers commercial plaza, were rusting or storm-damaged 5V roofs. Both were replaced with standing seam and hidden fasteners.
Aluminum or steel?
- Aluminum does not rust. For homes on the canals in Cape Coral, on the river in Fort Myers, or close to the Gulf in Naples and Bonita Springs, aluminum is the right choice. We used .032 aluminum standing seam panels on a recent waterfront new-construction home in Fort Myers.
- Steel holds a crisp profile and is the usual choice inland and on commercial buildings. We installed 24-gauge Kynar 500 steel standing seam on the Barkley Circle Plaza in Fort Myers.
- Both come in Kynar 500 finishes, the coating the manufacturers back with their longest finish warranties.
What a metal roof does for a Florida home
- Wind. Standing seam and stone coated steel are rated to 120 mph.
- Insurance. A new roof with the right attachment earns wind mitigation credits. We provide the wind mitigation inspection form after every re-roof.
- Lifespan. 40 to 70 years, with no tile underlayment to replace at year 20 and no shingles to lose in a storm.
- Maintenance. No cracked tiles and no lost shingles. An annual inspection through our SHIELD Maintenance Program is all it needs.
Recent metal projects
- Fort Myers, 2026. New-construction waterfront home built with Carlton Naumann Custom Homes. Slate Gray Sentriclad standing seam in .032 aluminum, 1.5-inch nail-strip profile. See the showcase.
- Naples, 2024. A rusting 5V exposed-fastener roof replaced with standing seam aluminum, hidden fasteners, Polyglass MTS peel-and-stick underlayment and 6-inch seamless gutters. See our Naples roofing page.
- Fort Myers, 2024. Barkley Circle Plaza, four commercial buildings whose 5V panels peeled off in Hurricane Ian. We tarped all four, replaced rotten wood, re-decked, installed Polyglass MTS high-temperature underlayment and finished with 24-gauge Kynar 500 standing seam in Dove Gray and new gutters throughout.
- Cape Coral, 2023. An Ian-damaged home re-roofed with 1.5-inch snap-lock standing seam in Cosmic Dusk over peel-and-stick underlayment, with a 7-inch gutter system in Musket Brown. See our Cape Coral roofing page.

Metal roofing questions
Will a metal roof rust?
Aluminum cannot rust, which is why we recommend it near salt water. Our steel panels carry a Kynar 500 finish that resists fading and chalking. Exposed-fastener roofs are the ones that rust, at the screws.
Does my HOA allow metal?
Many Naples, Bonita Springs and Estero associations now approve standing seam in specific colors and profiles, and stone coated steel looks like the tile they already require. We check your community's guidelines and prepare the submittal before quoting.
Do you tear off the old roof first?
Yes. Every replacement we do starts with a full tear-off so we can inspect and repair the decking before the underlayment and panels go on.
Areas we serve: Fort Myers, Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero and Cape Coral.
